A cafe by day & a pub by night, this dual-identity destination has a few interesting ideas up its scheming sleeves.
It's tricky to tell whether the schizophrenic selection here might be more alluring for lunch & dinner, so we ended up trying both.
For lunch, there will be eggs _ baked with beef bacon or smoked salmon & immersed in a relatively unusual pesto sauce that works for dipping with the garlic bread ...
... or poached/scrambled & partnered with perfunctory chicken sausages, turkey ham, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, hash browns & toasted bread. RM23, served 11am-6pm.
Good (& bad) things come in twos: A virtuous salad of tempura soft-shell crab with black sesame sauce ...
... & a comparatively vice-laden, carb-loaded spicy soft-shell crab spaghetti cooked with white wine, garlic, basil & parsley.
We kinda prefer the savoury-juicy pan-seared smoked duck breast with mango grape salsa & mesclun (RM18) ...
... to the more nondescript duck confit with honey & dark beer sauce (RM38). Both available for dinner, 6pm-1030pm.
Our favourite for Hyde: Braised beef cheeks, satisfyingly tender & flavoursome, well-priced at RM38 for a reasonable portion ...
... though the steaks here (served with parmesan fries) are worthwhile too, hearty & respectably executed.
Wrapping up with a final plate of red meat: A commendable serving of slow-braised lamb shank with beer gravy, mashed potatoes & sauteed veggies (RM45).
Beverages: Coffee throughout the sunlight hours, followed by cocktails (whisky sour & a mix of campari & orange juice, prepared by Hyde's friendly bartender) once night falls. Wine should be available eventually
All in all, Jekyll & Hyde is a decent addition to Empire Damansara; head here for lunch & watch 'Frozen' on the TV screen or come for dinner & be perplexed by how Christmas carols are being played in April.
